The results of this study showed that the bending position of joints using un-irradiated material was un-irradiated part and that the bending position of irradiated/irradiated joints was fusion area or HAZ (heat affected zone). Although the bending position of joints was different bor the combination pattern between irradiated and un-irradiated materials, the bending strength of joint was almost same. Additionally, it is confirmed that bending strength did not depend on the combination pattern between the irradiated and un-irradiated materials, nor on the relationship between the heat input direction and the bending load direction.

In this algorithm, part of fission neutrons emitted during random walk processes are tracked within the same generation, and thus a fission source distribution in the next generation spread more widely. Applying this method intensifies a neutron interaction effect even in a loosely-coupled array where conventional Monte Carlo criticality calculation methods have difficulties, and a converged fission source distribution can be obtained with fewer generations. Computing time spent for one generation, however, increases because of tracking fission neutrons within the same generation, which eventually results in an increase of total computing time up to convergence. However, since a fission source convergence is attained with fewer source iterations, a reliable determination of convergence can easily be made even in a system with a slow convergence.

The calculated relaxation of the interlayer distances, obtained by a geometry optimization procedure that minimizes the force on each atom, were compared with low energy electron diffraction (LEED) analysis of experimental data. In the case of Cu(511), the calculated results are in good agreement with the LEED analyses. On the other hand, for Cu(320) and Cu(410), there are large differences that may be understood from the fact that the LEED analyses of experiments consider up to only three or four layers from the surface, and that whereas even the fifth or sixth layers show large relaxation in our calculations. Our results suggest a reanalysis of the LEED data with the inclusion of more layers.

The experimental results show a characteristic energy dispersion of the near inhibited reflection at 150, implying Fe atoms split into two distinct states. The energy dispersion is in good agreement with the calculated spectrum based on LDA+U scheme. The calculation reveals an electronic configuration of the Fe 3d orbital follows a localization in the oxygen orbital surrounds one of the distinct Fe atoms.
